Coimbatore Collector Urged to Halt Commercial Fish Farming in Agraharasamakulam Tank

The Kousika River Development Association has petitioned the Coimbatore district collector to prevent commercial fish farming and fishing in the Agraharasamakulam tank. They argue that this activity poses risks to drinking water supply, agriculture, and groundwater recharge for Annur residents. The 160-acre tank is a vital water source, supporting local farms and replenishing groundwater essential for numerous borewells. The association warns that commercial operations could degrade water quality and harm the tank's ecosystem, citing similar issues in other Noyyal-linked tanks.

कौशिका नदी विकास संघ ने कोयंबटूर जिला कलेक्टर से अग्रहारसमकुलम टैंक में व्यावसायिक मछली पालन और मछली पकड़ने पर रोक लगाने की याचिका दायर की है। उनका तर्क है कि इस गतिविधि से अन्नूर के निवासियों के लिए पेयजल आपूर्ति, कृषि और भूजल पुनर्भरण को खतरा है। 160 एकड़ का यह टैंक एक महत्वपूर्ण जल स्रोत है, जो स्थानीय खेतों का समर्थन करता है और कई बोरवेल के लिए आवश्यक भूजल को फिर से भरता है। संघ ने चेतावनी दी है कि व्यावसायिक संचालन से पानी की गुणवत्ता खराब हो सकती है और टैंक के पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र को नुकसान पहुंच सकता है, जैसा कि नॉयल से जुड़े अन्य टैंकों में भी ऐसी ही समस्याएं देखी गई हैं।
