UPI MDR Charges Rollout Deferred Until After Diwali
Mint · business
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has postponed the introduction of merchant discount rate (MDR) charges on certain UPI transactions until after the Diwali festival. A new implementation date will be announced soon by NPCI managing director and chief executive officer Dilip Asbe. This decision follows pushback from trade bodies concerned about the charges impacting festive season spending. The proposed charges included a 0.4% MDR on eligible person-to-merchant UPI transactions exceeding ₹2,000, with exemptions for smaller merchants and transactions up to ₹2,000.
UPI MDR
