Endangered Banasura Laughingthrush Faces Multiple Threats
Times of India · environment
The Banasura laughingthrush, an endangered songbird with a very small distribution range, is facing increasing threats in its high-altitude forest habitat in Wayanad. A new study published in Nature Scientific Reports highlights that recurring forest fires, proposed tunnel road projects, landslides, and climate change are endangering the species, with an estimated population of only 1,000-1,500 birds. Researchers found the bird only in specific montane shola forests across three isolated hill ranges.
