IMF Reaches Staff Deal With Pakistan, Unlocking $1.2 Billion
The Hindu - International · world
The International Monetary Fund has reached a staff-level agreement with Pakistan on reviews of its lending programs, potentially unlocking approximately $1.21 billion in financing. This deal is pending board approval. If approved, Pakistan could access about $1 billion under the Extended Fund Facility and $210 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility. Pakistan remains reliant on external financing to bolster foreign exchange reserves and meet debt repayments. The IMF noted that while policies have preserved macroeconomic stability, risks remain elevated due to geopolitical tensions and volatile energy prices.
