Business Standard · politics
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has described the situation in India as an "undeclared emergency" following the detention of opposition leaders, activists, lawyers, and journalists in Delhi. These detentions occurred amid restrictions ahead of a protest demanding the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation over alleged electoral roll irregularities. Wangchuk condemned the arrests and stated he would consider a peaceful protest, including a hunger strike or march, if those detained are not released within 24 hours. He urged the government to resolve the issues through dialogue.
