A beef khichuri event near a temple at Dhaka's Jagannath University has sparked controversy, leading to plans by Islamic history students to slaughter cows on campus on October 16. This date coincides with Durga Puja's Maha Shashthi. University officials initially prohibited animal slaughter but later rescinded the notice. The dispute began when Hindu students objected to the beef feast's proximity to the temple, citing religious sensitivities. Organisers claimed they used bricks from the temple for a temporary oven unknowingly, later apologising and moving the cooking setup.
