Cabinet Secretariat Refused to Act on ECs' Complaints Against Senior Official

The Cabinet Secretariat has declined to act on complaints filed by two Election Commissioners against a senior official, citing that the communications were made in their individual capacities. An RTI reply revealed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi wrote separate letters on July 29 regarding the conduct of a senior deputy election commissioner. The Cabinet Secretariat concluded that intervening without an official decision from the Election Commission would constitute interference in a constitutional body.

कैबिनेट सचिवालय ने दो चुनाव आयुक्तों द्वारा एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी के खिलाफ दायर शिकायतों पर कार्रवाई करने से मना कर दिया है, यह कहते हुए कि संचार उनकी व्यक्तिगत क्षमता में किया गया था। एक RTI जवाब से पता चला कि चुनाव आयुक्त सुखबीर सिंह संधू और विवेक जोशी ने एक वरिष्ठ उप चुनाव आयुक्त के आचरण के संबंध में 29 जुलाई को अलग-अलग पत्र लिखे थे। कैबिनेट सचिवालय ने निष्कर्ष निकाला कि चुनाव आयोग के आधिकारिक फैसले के बिना हस्तक्षेप करना एक संवैधानिक निकाय में हस्तक्षेप होगा।
