India's Department of Telecommunications has directed all telecom operators to implement Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) across their networks starting November 1, 2026. This new feature will display the caller's name alongside their phone number, even if the contact is not saved. CNAP will be enabled by default on 4G and higher networks, with business users allowed to display preferred names under certain conditions. The move aims to enhance transparency and security in telecommunications, following trials and recommendations from TRAI.
