Business Standard · politics
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has stated that any process leading to the disenfranchisement of millions of Indian citizens is "intrinsically arbitrary." Speaking at NALSAR University, he warned that large-scale exclusion of voters would strike at the heart of the Constitution, violating principles of adult suffrage and equality. He emphasized that no authority is above the Constitution and that such wholesale disenfranchisement cannot be condoned. The remarks come amid controversy over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which has raised concerns about eligible voters being excluded.
