NASA Prints Human Heart Tissue On ISS

In May 2024, NASA's BioFabrication Facility successfully bioprinted a three-dimensional human heart tissue sample aboard the International Space Station. This advancement builds on earlier experiments, including a 2018 Russian mission that used a bioprinter called Organ.Aut to culture human cartilage tissue in orbit. These orbital experiments leverage microgravity to assemble tissue structures without Earth-based support, allowing for the creation of more complex biological materials.
