11 Live Worms Found in 71-Year-Old Farmer's Eyes; Some Reproducing

Doctors in South Korea were astonished to find 11 live roundworms, Thelazia callipaeda, in the eyes of a 71-year-old farmer. The farmer had been experiencing eye irritation, redness, and blurred vision for two months. Investigations revealed that some of the female worms were already reproducing within his eyes, a condition known as thelaziasis. The parasites are typically spread by flies that feed on animal eye secretions. All 11 worms were successfully removed under local anesthesia, and the farmer is now recovering well.
