Santali Expert Panel Urges CM to Introduce Language in Schools Under NEP

A Santali expert committee has urged the Odisha government to grant minority language status to Santali and introduce it as a school subject under the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. A delegation, including Padma Shri author Damayanti Besra, met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to submit a memorandum for the language's promotion and preservation. The committee seeks Santali's introduction from Class I to higher secondary as a Modern Indian Language and elective subject. They also requested the recruitment of Santali teachers and dedicated BEd seats in specific colleges.

एक संताली विशेषज्ञ समिति ने ओडिशा सरकार से संताली को अल्पसंख्यक भाषा का दर्जा देने और राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति (NEP), 2020 के तहत इसे स्कूल विषय के रूप में शुरू करने का आग्रह किया है। पद्म श्री पुरस्कार से सम्मानित लेखिका दमयंती बेसरा सहित एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने भाषा के प्रचार और संरक्षण के लिए एक ज्ञापन सौंपने के लिए मुख्यमंत्री मोहन चरण माझी से मुलाकात की। समिति संताली को कक्षा I से उच्चतर माध्यमिक तक एक आधुनिक भारतीय भाषा और वैकल्पिक विषय के रूप में शुरू करने की मांग करती है। उन्होंने संताली शिक्षकों की भर्ती और विशिष्ट कॉलेजों में समर्पित BEd सीटों का भी अनुरोध किया है।
