Florida Creates Three New Artificial Reefs Using Repurposed Concrete Culverts

Times of India · environment

Florida teams have begun a significant marine construction project off the coast of Okaloosa County, placing 1,500 tons of repurposed concrete culverts into the Gulf of Mexico near Destin-Fort Walton Beach. Each of the three planned artificial reefs will receive approximately 500 tons of material, arranged to create complex underwater habitats. These structures aim to provide shelter and feeding areas for marine life, fostering growth for algae and small fish, while also creating hunting grounds for larger species.
