US FCC Bans Huawei Chip-Powered Cameras Over Spy Concerns

Times of India · world

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has banned a dashboard camera and a wireless video transmitter from the American market due to their use of chips from Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon. The FCC chairman described the components as "foreign surveillance chips," posing an unacceptable risk to national security. This action marks the first use of a new FCC rule allowing the rejection of any gadget built around a chip from a company on its national security blacklist. The ban applies to new equipment applications, not products already approved for sale.
