Advisory Issued On Kidney Risks Of Painkillers

India's drug regulator, CDSCO, has issued a fresh advisory on the rational use of painkillers and antibiotics due to risks of kidney complications from their abuse. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Nsaids) and antibiotics are prescription medicines and should only be used under medical supervision. The advisory urges people not to take Nsaids repeatedly or for prolonged periods without consulting a doctor. Doctors are advised to use the lowest effective dose of Nsaids for the shortest duration, especially in patients at risk of kidney injury, given India's substantial chronic kidney disease burden.
