Book Argues Accelerating Climate Change Is Most Serious Threat Today

A new book posits that accelerating climate change represents the most serious threat humanity faces today. The Earth's climate is regulated by a complex web of interrelated processes, including the sun, atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere. These elements interact through natural biogeochemical cycles. Scientific understanding of this climate system advanced significantly during the twentieth century. Pioneer climate scientist Wallace Broecker issued a warning in 1987 about human interference with these natural systems.
