Natural Gas Trading Volume On IGX Triples Year-On-Year Amid Power Demand Surge

Times of India · business

The volume of natural gas traded on the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) more than tripled year-on-year in September, reaching a record 17.8 trillion British thermal units (TBtu). Power generators were major contributors to this surge, purchasing 10.4 TBtu of free-market gas. This increased demand from the power sector, driven by a 11.3% rise in India's power consumption, significantly boosted overall gas trading on the exchange. The benchmark GIXI gas price also saw a substantial increase of 161% compared to the previous year.
