Himachal Pradesh Deploys Tech-Driven Early Warning System For Glacial Lake Flood Threats

Himachal Pradesh has installed an advanced Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) early warning system at Ghepan glacial lake in Lahaul and Spiti district to enhance disaster preparedness. This technology-driven system aims for faster emergency responses, learning from recent devastating floods in Nepal. The system includes a floating buoy, an automatic weather station, and a camera unit, all interconnected via a supercomputer for rapid mobile alerts. Scientists from C-DAC, Pune, contributed to its development, marking a significant step in managing recurring extreme weather events in the state.

आपदा तैयारी को बेहतर बनाने के लिए हिमाचल प्रदेश ने लाहौल और स्पीति जिले में घेपन ग्लेशियर झील पर एक उन्नत ग्लेशियर लेक आउटबर्स्ट फ्लड (GLOF) अर्ली वार्निंग सिस्टम लगाया है। यह टेक्नोलॉजी-संचालित सिस्टम नेपाल में हाल की विनाशकारी बाढ़ से सीखकर, आपातकालीन प्रतिक्रियाओं को तेज करने का लक्ष्य रखता है। सिस्टम में एक फ्लोटिंग बोय, एक ऑटोमेटिक वेदर स्टेशन और एक कैमरा यूनिट शामिल है, जो सभी तेज मोबाइल अलर्ट के लिए एक सुपरकंप्यूटर के माध्यम से जुड़े हुए हैं। पुणे स्थित C-DAC के वैज्ञानिकों ने इसके विकास में योगदान दिया है, जो राज्य में बार-बार होने वाली चरम मौसम की घटनाओं के प्रबंधन में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।
