Kerala HC Orders Takeover of Flats for Demolition Within Two Weeks

The Kerala High Court has directed the Army Welfare Housing Organisation and the Residents Welfare Association to take possession of flats in the dilapidated Chander Kunj Army Tower's Towers B and C. This action is to expedite their demolition, with the flats to be handed over to Edifice Engineering within two weeks. The court issued this interim order while considering a petition challenging notices from the Ernakulam district collector. The urgency stems from the need to demolish the structurally unstable buildings, which were completed in 2018.

केरल हाईकोर्ट ने आर्मी वेलफेयर हाउसिंग ऑर्गनाइजेशन और रेजिडेंट्स वेलफेयर एसोसिएशन को निर्देश दिया है कि वे चंद्र कुंज आर्मी टॉवर के टॉवर बी और सी के जर्जर फ्लैट्स का कब्ज़ा लें। यह कार्रवाई दो हफ़्तों के अंदर एडिफिस इंजीनियरिंग को फ्लैट्स सौंपकर उन्हें गिराने की प्रक्रिया तेज़ करने के लिए है। कोर्ट ने यह अंतरिम आदेश एर्नाकुलम जिला कलेक्टर की नोटिस को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए दिया। इन इमारतों को 2018 में पूरा किया गया था और ये संरचनात्मक रूप से अस्थिर हैं, इसलिए इन्हें गिराना ज़रूरी है।
