Former Irish Olympic swimming coach George Gibney has been sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison for sexually abusing four girls between 1971 and 1981. The 78-year-old was convicted of 39 counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted rape. The judge described Gibney as a manipulative predator who exploited his position of authority. The victims were aged between eight and 13 at the time of the assaults. Gibney coached swimmers at the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Olympics.
