India's foreign policy should not be confined to choosing between Washington and Beijing, according to Hindustan Times Executive Editor Shishir Gupta. He argued that India's primary focus must be its own national interest, advocating for strategic autonomy. This approach requires strengthening domestic manufacturing, enhancing military deterrence, diversifying energy supplies, and increasing leadership among Global South nations. Gupta highlighted that while dialogue between the US and China is necessary, it does not signify a resolution to fundamental strategic disputes like Taiwan and the South China Sea.
