Jaipur's UNESCO Status Threatened By Illegal Construction

The Rajasthan High Court has expressed serious concern over the potential loss of Jaipur's UNESCO World Heritage Site status due to illegal constructions within the walled city. Taking suo motu cognizance, the court has ordered a survey of illegal constructions and encroachments, demanding a report within two weeks. The court noted that UNESCO had previously warned about weak heritage protection and illegal demolitions, highlighting that Jaipur could become the fifth site to lose its status if action isn't taken by December 2026.

राजस्थान हाई कोर्ट ने अवैध निर्माणों के कारण जयपुर के यूनेस्को विश्व धरोहर स्थल का दर्जा खोने की संभावना पर गंभीर चिंता जताई है। कोर्ट ने स्वतः संज्ञान लेते हुए अवैध निर्माणों और अतिक्रमणों का सर्वेक्षण कराने का आदेश दिया है और दो सप्ताह में रिपोर्ट मांगी है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि यूनेस्को ने पहले भी कमजोर विरासत संरक्षण और अवैध विध्वंस के बारे में चेतावनी दी थी, और यह बताया कि यदि दिसंबर 2026 तक कार्रवाई नहीं की गई तो जयपुर अपना दर्जा खोने वाला पांचवां स्थल बन सकता है।
