Dams Starve Danube Delta of Sediment for Decades

Two massive dams, the Iron Gates, have significantly reduced sediment flow into the Danube Delta for decades. For thousands of years, the river naturally built and reshaped the delta with sediment. However, after the dams were constructed, sediment discharge downstream dropped to 30-40% of its previous level. This reduced supply means the delta now struggles to maintain its land against erosion, particularly along the Black Sea coast.

बांधों के कारण डेन्यूब डेल्टा को दशकों से गाद नहीं मिल रही

आयरन गेट्स नाम के दो बड़े बांधों ने डेन्यूब डेल्टा में सदियों से गाद के बहाव को बहुत कम कर दिया है। हज़ारों सालों से नदी खुद डेल्टा बनाती और बदलती आई है। लेकिन बांध बनने के बाद, नीचे की ओर गाद का बहाव पहले के मुकाबले सिर्फ़ 30-40% रह गया है। इस कमी की वजह से डेल्टा को, खासकर ब्लैक सी के किनारे, कटाव से ज़मीन बचाना मुश्किल हो रहा है।
