The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is actively working to remove companies with no economic activity from stock exchanges. Sebi chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated that the continued presence of such entities poses a significant risk to investors and can be exploited for 'pump and dump operations'. The regulator is employing AI techniques to monitor accounts and protect retail investors. Efforts are also underway to improve the SME listing board framework and ease certain norms for foreign portfolio investors, including disclosures and concentration limits.
