Telangana's Pranahita Water Plan Gets Maharashtra CM's Reconsideration
Times of India · india
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has agreed to reconsider Telangana's proposal to increase the height of the Tummidihatti barrage on the Pranahita river from 148 metres to 152 metres. He suggested forming a joint committee of officials from both states to assess water availability, submergence, and farmer impact. Telangana argues the higher barrage is crucial for adequately meeting regional irrigation needs, especially considering rising energy costs and climate change. Maharashtra has indicated willingness to support Telangana's water requirements if the project does not adversely affect its people.
