Pune Residents Demand Halt to Tree Felling After Seven Young Trees Cut

Pune residents are demanding a moratorium on tree felling for infrastructure projects after seven young trees were cut or uprooted in Koregaon Park for underground electrical cable work. These trees were part of a community plantation drive initiated in 2024 after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) felled 81 mature trees on the same stretch. Residents expressed frustration, stating the trees had begun flourishing after significant community effort. They allege the recent removal occurred without adequate public notification or clear permissions, reviving concerns over the city's diminishing greenery.

पुणे के लोग इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर प्रोजेक्ट्स के लिए पेड़ कटाई पर रोक की मांग कर रहे हैं। कोरेगांव पार्क में अंडरग्राउंड इलेक्ट्रिकल केबल के काम के लिए सात छोटे पेड़ काट दिए गए या उखाड़ दिए गए। ये पेड़ पुणे म्युनिसिपल कॉर्पोरेशन (PMC) द्वारा उसी सड़क पर 81 पुराने पेड़ काटे जाने के बाद 2024 में शुरू किए गए सामुदायिक वृक्षारोपण अभियान का हिस्सा थे। निवासियों ने निराशा व्यक्त की और कहा कि काफी सामुदायिक प्रयास के बाद पेड़ फलने-फूलने लगे थे। उनका आरोप है कि हाल ही में हुई पेड़ कटाई बिना पर्याप्त सार्वजनिक सूचना या स्पष्ट अनुमति के हुई, जिससे शहर की घटती हरियाली को लेकर चिंताएं फिर से बढ़ गई हैं।
