The Hindu · india
Rock removal operations are ongoing on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway near Munnar following a major rockfall during widening work. District Collector Dineshan Cheruvatt has banned vehicular traffic on the Adimaly-Munnar stretch due to loose boulders and weakened trees posing a danger. Authorities estimate clearing debris and demolishing hazardous formations will take at least three days, with traffic resuming only after slope stabilization and expert certification. The closure during the busy Pooja holiday season has raised concerns among tourism stakeholders about severe traffic bottlenecks on diverted routes.
