Texas Underwater Reef Holds 24.4 Tonnes of Fish

An artificial reef off the Texas coast, built from old boats, cinderblocks, and railroad ties, now supports an estimated 24.4 tonnes of fish biomass. Researchers used sonar surveys on the 1,650-acre Rio Grande Valley Reef, located near South Padre Island. The study found that sunken boats attracted the highest average fish biomass. This artificial habitat was created to provide a thriving marine environment on a soft-sediment seafloor.

टेक्सास के तट पर पुराने जहाजों, ईंटों और रेल की पटरियों से बना एक कृत्रिम रीफ अब करीब 24.4 टन मछलियों का घर बन गया है। शोधकर्ताओं ने साउथ पैड्रे आइलैंड के पास 1,650 एकड़ के रियो ग्रांडे वैली रीफ पर सोनार से सर्वे किया। उन्होंने पाया कि डूबे हुए जहाजों के आसपास सबसे ज़्यादा मछलियाँ थीं। यह जगह समुद्री जीवों के लिए एक बेहतरीन माहौल बनाने के लिए बनाई गई थी।
