Internet Disrupted In Ethiopia's Tigray Region

DW World · world

Internet access has been disrupted in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region amid renewed fighting between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the federal government. This follows a shattered 2022 peace deal, raising fears of a return to the widespread communication blackouts experienced during the 2020-2022 war. Residents reported panic buying as shelves emptied, with deep anxieties about potential cutoffs of essential services like banks, telecom, and electricity. The TPLF has also clashed with government forces in neighboring regions and formed new alliances.
