FSSAI Issues Notices to Nestle, HUL Over Misleading Labels

Business Standard · business

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to Nestle India and Hindustan Unilever for alleged misleading claims and non-compliance on product labels. Nestle faced scrutiny for inconsistent descriptions of its Nescafé products and for marketing a special dietary food without prior approval. Hindustan Unilever's Horlicks products were flagged for claims related to bone strength, healthy muscles, and sugar content, which FSSAI deemed non-compliant. The regulator also suspended licences for two other food operators due to continued non-compliance, demanding action from e-commerce platforms and licensing authorities.
