Times of India - Business · business
An Indian employee working in South Korea received a tax notice from the Income Tax Department for salary paid in US dollars to his Non-Resident External (NRE) account in India. The Assessing Officer argued that since the salary was credited in India, it was taxable, and noted the employee's failure to provide a Tax Residency Certificate or foreign tax returns. The Dispute Resolution Panel upheld this view, deeming salary paid into an Indian bank account as taxable in India.
