This figure also represents a 1.75 per cent sequential rise from August's 139.08 million. The previous record was 140.6 million in March. Experts suggest this surge reflects strong domestic trade and increased economic formalisation under GST, potentially signalling robust festive demand. The record comes as the GST Council proposes reducing routine checks on goods in transit, aiming to ease supply chains and focus enforcement on genuine tax evasion.
