Times of India · business
An insurance agent in Rajasthan faced scrutiny from the Income Tax Department for depositing Rs 35 lakh in cash, which was classified as unexplained money. The agent contended the funds were policy premiums collected from clients. While some policies listed other agents, he explained this was due to commission-sharing arrangements necessitated by the Insurance Act's restrictions. He provided affidavits from other agents and detailed financial records to support his claim. Ultimately, ITAT Jaipur ruled in his favour, accepting his explanation and granting full relief.
