New FEMA Rules for Indian Freelancers and Influencers Earning Overseas

Business Standard · business

Indian freelancers and influencers earning from overseas clients must now comply with new Foreign Exchange Management (FEMA) regulations effective October 1, 2026. Services exported to foreign clients are now under a formal Export Declaration Form (EDF) reporting framework, requiring an additional compliance step with their authorized dealer bank. This change mandates filing a monthly EDF with all overseas invoices within 30 days of the month's end. Foreign earnings must be brought into India within nine months of the invoice date, or twelve months if billed in rupees.
