भारत के चुनाव आयोग ने बताया कि वे राहुल गांधी के नेतृत्व वाले विपक्षी सांसदों से इसलिए नहीं मिल सके क्योंकि कोई औपचारिक मुलाकात का समय नहीं मांगा गया था। आयोग को प्रस्तावित मुलाकात के बारे में मीडिया रिपोर्टों से और बाद में दिल्ली पुलिस से पता चला। आयोग ने बताया कि मुलाकातें उसके दफ्तर में होती हैं और इसके लिए एक औपचारिक आवेदन की ज़रूरत होती है। उन्होंने संसद भवन के बाहर ज्ञापन लेने के लिए एक अधिकारी भेजने की पेशकश की थी, लेकिन इसे ठुकरा दिया गया। आयोग ने अपने नियमों का पालन करते हुए लोकतांत्रिक प्रक्रियाओं के प्रति सम्मान पर ज़ोर दिया।
