Supreme Court Questions Election Commission's Form 6 Changes

The Supreme Court has questioned the ECI authority to introduce modifications to Form 6, the standard application for voter enrolment. A bench led by the Chief Justice of India is examining whether the ECI can impose additional requirements through administrative means when Form 6 is governed by statutory rules. The court clarified that a modified Form 6, which includes an additional declaration for Special Intensive Revision (SIR), had not received judicial approval.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मतदाता पंजीकरण के लिए मानक आवेदन फॉर्म 6 में बदलाव करने के चुनाव आयोग (ECI) के अधिकार पर सवाल उठाए हैं। भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश की अगुवाई वाली एक पीठ यह जांच कर रही है कि क्या ECI प्रशासनिक माध्यमों से अतिरिक्त आवश्यकताएं लगा सकता है, जबकि फॉर्म 6 वैधानिक नियमों द्वारा शासित होता है। अदालत ने स्पष्ट किया कि संशोधित फॉर्म 6, जिसमें स्पेशल इंटेंसिव रिवीजन (SIR) के लिए एक अतिरिक्त घोषणा शामिल है, को न्यायिक मंजूरी नहीं मिली थी।
