NJ Teacher's Sheep Flock Grows From 50 to 450 Managing Solar Fields

Times of India · environment

A New Jersey teacher, Julie Bishop, transformed a simple observation into a thriving solar-grazing business. Initially seeing workers mow solar fields, she proposed using her sheep for vegetation management. Starting with 50 sheep on 15 acres in 2013, her operation, Solar Sheep LLC, expanded significantly. By 2021, Bishop managed 450 sheep across 85 acres of solar installations. This innovative approach pairs livestock with renewable energy infrastructure, offering a natural alternative to mechanical mowing and demonstrating a growing trend in sustainable land management.
