A fast-track court in Kinnaur has sentenced two men, Tabrez Alam and Lakhinder, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the gangrape of a 32-year-old woman. The court observed that sexual assault degrades the victim's soul and that any lenient punishment would be an injustice. The convicts were also fined ₹9,000 each. The incident occurred a year ago when the woman was returning home after watching Ramleela. The court emphasized that rape is a heinous crime against society and women's dignity, leaving lasting psychological trauma and social stigma.
