Journalists' Union Demands Special Law for Safety, Restoration of Working Journalists Act

The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has demanded a special law to ensure the safety and security of working journalists and urged the government to restore the Working Journalists Act. Members observed October 2 as 'Demands Day' with rallies and protests. The union also called for a Media Commission, a Wage Board for salary revisions, and a pension scheme for senior journalists. They highlighted unfulfilled election promises regarding housing and insurance schemes for journalists. A delegation submitted a memorandum to a local MLA seeking action on these issues.
