Kerala HC Suspends Sentence of Former DGP Tomin J. Thachankary in Disproportionate Assets Case

The Kerala High Court has suspended the sentence of former DGP Tomin J. Thachankary, who was convicted in a disproportionate assets case. The Vigilance Court, Kottayam, had previously sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹30.84 lakh for amassing wealth beyond his known income during his tenure as Inspector General from 2003 to 2007. The prosecution alleged he acquired assets worth ₹64 lakh disproportionately, representing 52.33% of his income.

केरल हाई कोर्ट ने आय से अधिक संपत्ति मामले में दोषी ठहराए गए पूर्व DGP थॉमिन जे. थचानकरी की सज़ा निलंबित कर दी है। कोट्टायम की विजिलेंस कोर्ट ने पहले उन्हें 2003 से 2007 तक इंस्पेक्टर जनरल के कार्यकाल के दौरान अपनी ज्ञात आय से अधिक संपत्ति जमा करने के लिए चार साल की कठोर कारावास और ₹30.84 लाख के जुर्माने की सज़ा सुनाई थी। अभियोजन पक्ष ने आरोप लगाया था कि उन्होंने अपनी आय का 52.33% यानी ₹64 लाख की संपत्ति अवैध रूप से अर्जित की थी।
