A report mapping 104 aviation threat incidents between 2010 and 2026 reveals that bomb-threat hoaxes may be used by smuggling networks to disrupt airport security. These tactics aim to delay flights, conceal contraband, and exploit gaps in Customs surveillance. The report identified seven incidents between October 2024 and April 2025 with suspected links between bomb threats and Customs interdictions, involving gold, drugs, and foreign currency. Seizures in connected cases amounted to approximately 5.9kg of gold and 3.2kg of methaqualone, valued at over Rs 7.7 crore combined.
