While Udaipur is widely recognised as India's 'City of Lakes' due to its historic water bodies like Lake Pichola, Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, also shares this popular nickname. Bhopal's title stems from its numerous lakes, including the expansive Upper Lake. Both cities, despite their shared moniker, offer distinct experiences shaped by their unique histories, architecture, and landscapes. Udaipur, founded in 1559, features artificial lakes that historically aided water management and are now major tourist attractions, contributing to its status as a heritage destination.
