Meghalaya Charts Sustainable Tourism Roadmap For Global Appeal

Meghalaya is developing a new policy roadmap to establish itself as a sustainable, community-led, and climate-resilient tourism destination, aiming for year-round global appeal. The state plans to become a USD 16-billion economy, with tourism as a key growth driver. Tourism-linked livelihoods have expanded significantly, with tourist footfalls reaching nearly 18.55 lakh in 2025. The policy emphasizes high-value, low-volume tourism, community participation through homestays and local enterprises, and environmental stewardship. Over Rs 162 crore is proposed for tourism infrastructure and community development.
