Satellite-Tagged Amur Falcons Complete 20,000km Round-Trip Migration to Manipur
Hindustan Times · environment
Two satellite-tagged Amur falcons, Apapang and Alang, have successfully returned to Manipur after completing a remarkable round-trip migration covering nearly 20,000 km across 23 countries. The journey included a non-stop flight of approximately 6,000 km from northeast India to Somalia. Tagged by Wildlife Institute of India scientists in November 2025, the birds arrived from China and will spend a few weeks in Tamenglong district. Manipur serves as a crucial stopover for these migratory birds, which feed on insects to prepare for their extensive flights.
