NRI Landlord Loses Eviction Case in Punjab

A Canadian NRI landlord sought to evict his tenant in Punjab to use the house during his India visits. The tenant, paying Rs 20,000 monthly rent, refused to vacate. The landlord filed an eviction petition under a repealed section of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949. The Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled in favour of the tenant, allowing her to stay.

एक कनाडाई एनआरआई मकान मालिक ने पंजाब में अपने किराएदार को घर खाली करने के लिए कहा ताकि वह भारत आने पर उसका इस्तेमाल कर सके। हर महीने 20,000 रुपये किराया देने वाली किराएदार ने घर खाली करने से मना कर दिया। मकान मालिक ने एक पुराने कानून के तहत बेदखली की अर्जी दी थी। पंजाब और हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट ने किराएदार के पक्ष में फैसला सुनाया और उसे घर में रहने की इजाजत दे दी।
