The US aircraft carrier George HW Bush, carrying approximately 4,800 personnel, arrived off Thailand's Phuket island on Sunday. The Nimitz-class carrier is making a rest-and-recreation stop after supporting US military operations in the Middle East, specifically in the Arabian Sea during the conflict with Iran. Crew members are expected to come ashore from October 4 to 9. This visit underscores the long-standing military ties between the US and Thailand, its only treaty partner in mainland Southeast Asia. Another US carrier, Abraham Lincoln, recently made a similar port call.
