Adult Woman Cannot Be Forced Home By Parents or Police, Rules High Court

The Kerala High Court has ruled that neither parents nor the police can compel an adult woman reported missing to return to her home. Upon tracing her, police must simply record her unwillingness to return and file an appropriate report to conclude the case. The order came on a petition by a 22-year-old woman alleging harassment by police who attempted to force her return. The court affirmed her right to make her own life decisions as a major.

केरल हाई कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि कोई भी माता-पिता या पुलिस किसी लापता वयस्क महिला को घर लौटने के लिए मजबूर नहीं कर सकते। उसे ढूंढने के बाद, पुलिस को बस उसकी घर न लौटने की अनिच्छा दर्ज करनी होगी और मामला खत्म करने के लिए उचित रिपोर्ट दाखिल करनी होगी। यह आदेश 22 वर्षीय महिला की याचिका पर आया, जिसने पुलिस द्वारा उसे घर लौटने के लिए मजबूर करने के प्रयासों के खिलाफ उत्पीड़न का आरोप लगाया था। अदालत ने एक बालिग के तौर पर अपने जीवन के फैसले खुद लेने के उसके अधिकार की पुष्टि की।
