Malayalam Cinema Seeks Industry Status: Single Window Clearance & Lower Power Tariffs Proposed

Malayalam cinema bodies have proposed granting industry status to the sector, including a special desk for single-window clearance for film shooting and permissions. Recommendations also include relaxations in licensing norms for cinema halls and withdrawal of double taxation on movie tickets. The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce highlighted that combined GST and local entertainment taxes adversely affect the industry. Film producers also requested capital subsidies and improved access to bank loans. The government is considering these proposals before finalising a draft policy.
