Supreme Court Allows New-Generation Joint Firecrackers, Modifying 2018 Ban

The Supreme Court has accepted the Centre's recommendation to permit specified new-generation joint firecrackers, subject to conditions on shell size and burst intervals. This decision modifies the court's earlier 2018 prohibition on conventional joint crackers, or laris, which had allowed only reduced-emission and green crackers. New-generation versions are redesigned with smaller shells and a slower bursting pattern, reportedly producing 30% lower emissions and reduced solid waste. The court's consideration of these new crackers follows a report by CSIR-NEERI, CPCB, and PESO.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र की सिफारिश को मानते हुए, शेल के आकार और बर्स्ट इंटरवल पर कुछ शर्तों के साथ, खास नई पीढ़ी के ज्वाइंट फायरक्रैकर्स को मंजूरी दे दी है। इस फैसले से पारंपरिक ज्वाइंट क्रैकर्स, यानी लड़ी पर कोर्ट का 2018 का पहले का प्रतिबंध संशोधित हो गया है, जिसमें केवल कम उत्सर्जन वाले और ग्रीन क्रैकर्स की इजाजत थी। नई पीढ़ी के क्रैकर्स को छोटे शेल और धीमी बर्स्टिंग पैटर्न के साथ फिर से डिज़ाइन किया गया है, जिससे कथित तौर पर 30% कम उत्सर्जन और ठोस कचरा कम होता है। कोर्ट ने इन नए क्रैकर्स पर CSIR-NEERI, CPCB और PESO की रिपोर्ट के बाद विचार किया है।
