Commanders must retain final say in warfare, AI is indispensable: CDS Subramani

Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani stated that artificial intelligence is crucial for modern militaries, emphasizing that no force can survive without utilizing it. He highlighted the shift towards a "system-of-systems" approach in warfare, where integrated military systems and resilient networks are essential. Subramani stressed that while AI will support decision-making, commanders must retain the final say in critical choices. He also noted the importance of deploying AI both centrally and at the tactical edge for continued operation even in communication-denied environments.

चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ जनरल एनएस राजा सुब्रमण्य ने कहा कि आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस (AI) आधुनिक सेनाओं के लिए बहुत ज़रूरी है और इसके बिना कोई भी सेना टिक नहीं सकती। उन्होंने कहा कि युद्ध का तरीका 'सिस्टम-ऑफ-सिस्टम' की ओर बढ़ रहा है, जिसमें एकीकृत सैन्य प्रणालियाँ और मज़बूत नेटवर्क ज़रूरी हैं। सुब्रमण्य ने ज़ोर देकर कहा कि AI निर्णय लेने में मदद करेगा, लेकिन अंतिम और महत्वपूर्ण फैसले कमांडरों के ही होने चाहिए। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि AI को केंद्रीय स्तर पर और सामरिक मोर्चे पर भी तैनात करना ज़रूरी है ताकि संचार बाधित होने पर भी काम जारी रह सके।
